Cleanliness pertains not only to the way we look after ourselves, our home but also to the way we look after our surroundings.
Cleanliness is often a daily routine in the house and one begins the day with it, whether it involves sweeping, mopping, washing dishes or setting things in their respective places. It is thought to us since childhood by our parents not to mess up things, throw wastes around the house, to keep our rooms clean with our books properly stacked on a shelf or table, clothes kept on hooks or hangers and to wash our hands before eating and so on.
At school too we are thought about cleanliness by our teachers and are appreciated for wearing clean clothes and being tidy. On the other hand students who wear dirty clothes or unpolished shoes are punished in order to bring a fear among us to be clean and follow the virtue of cleanliness. Schools conduct cleanliness drives in nearby localities to inculcate the sense of social responsibility among children.
This social responsibility is of great importance to our neighbourhood, state and the overall development of our nation. People tend to keep their homes clean from filth and waste but do not mind throwing the same stuff on the roadside. In a nation with more than a billion people, only a small percentage of people might follow the virtue of keeping their homes as well as other public areas clean and the majority of it feels free to dump garbage and waste wherever they feel and without any sense of guilt.
It is difficult to inculcate the sense of cleanliness to a billion people at once but we could start to educate a few people at a time, who in turn spreads the same sense among their family and colleagues and hope that this transition happens at a faster pace. This change brought by the efforts of few citizens would transform the nation into a place with a billion people with a sense of cleanliness and will promote the nation on the world map and help to remove the few cities of our nation as the dirtiest ones from the list.
Looking forward to many hands that would join together to make all this happen and help create a better place to live for our generation and the ones to come. Spruce up INDIA.
